The End of Watch Memorial Wall

Created in 2014 by the Los Angeles Police Protective League’s Eagle & Badge Foundation to pay tribute to the 220+ LAPD officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting and serving the citizens of Los Angeles. Now, with a life of it’s own, the End of Watch Memorial Wall, carries on the tribute.

The End of Watch Memorial Wall brings the message of sacrifice and duty of LAPD officers to the citizens of Los Angeles and beyond – emphasizing the commitment and bravery of law enforcement officers, and their families, as they protect and serve . Simultaneously, the Center will be an inter -active hi tech unit partnering with local law enforcement in the communities they serve.

The names on this monument have made the ultimate sacrifice ‘In the Line of Duty’.

In May of 2014, the End of Watch Memorial Wall was unveiled showcasing 207 names – a mammoth structure of steel and crystal bathed in pale blue light. The End of Watch Memorial Wall stands solemnly, proudly bearing the names of brave LAPD officers who perished in the line of duty. The Wall is 58 feet long and weighs in at over 15,000 pounds. The memorial was designed to travel throughout the city and beyond as an everlasting tribute to those officers who have given their lives for the Citizens of Los Angeles since 1869.

For the families of those officers, seeing the names of their loved one etched forever in glass is a quiet comfort – knowing they will never be forgotten. It is the entire city of Los Angeles saying, we are grateful and we stand behind you.

The structure was commissioned by the Los Angeles Police Protective League and the Eagle & Badge Foundation, designed and created by local artist Timothy Lampros.

In addition to spreading the message of incredible commitment and sacrifice, the traveling memorial will serve as an ongoing funding platform to assist those families tragically affected by the loss or injury of their loved one.  To date, the End of Watch Memorial Wall has been visited by over 2,150,000 individuals throughout Greater Los Angeles, the State of California and neighboring states .

To allow the Wall to travel more easily and cost effectively, a specially designed trailer was commissioned and built by Featherlite to enable the Wall to travel extensively in the coming years and offer the opportunity for millions more to hear the stories of those who sacrificed all – and to pay their respects.

Simultaneously, through this interactive mobile unit, children and community members can continue to learn about the LAPD, and the ongoing dedication of our 9,000 officers, and law enforcement officers throughout the country.

“It is not how these officers died that made them heroes, it is how they lived”

The LAPD has long been recognized as one of the top law enforcement agencies in the world. The END OF WATCH Memorial Wall was created to pay respect to the dedicated officers who have fallen in the line of duty while serving the citizens of Los Angeles. It is the first and only travelling memorial to first responders of it’s kind in the country!

The Wall will travel throughout Southern California and across the United States, to provide innovative experiences for families and at risk youth. Housed in a high tech custom designed 53 foot trailer, the EOW will provide an opportunity for local law enforcement officers to interact with children and adults while explaining their roles in the community as not only police officers but as mentors and educators. Children of all ages can learn about the total dedication of these officers, and the sacrifices made by their families – with some making the ultimate sacrifice.

One in three children in the United States live without a father figure
. Offering children and young adults the opportunity to interact with these mentors will provide role models to the many thousands of young people reached – empowering them to take charge of their own futures. They will be given the opportunity to learn to respect others and choose to avoid gangs, violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors. Using the current and fallen officers as prime examples of role models and heroes, we will encourage these young adults to participate in sports and youth programs, attend sporting and recreational activities, teach core values, become involved with Cadet and Police Activity League (PAL) programs, and thereby take charge of their own destinies. Local law enforcement officers will provide the mentorship and serve as local resources to provide youth education, training and skills and try to fill a small portion of the void in these young lives and inspire them to establish goals and fulfill their dreams.
